Introduction

Twelve inter-related recommendations for ensuring success and closing the achievement gap for all of California’s middle grades students form the foundation of TCSII content and serve as the organizational structure for the Web portal.  This portal to middle grades research, resources, connections, and sample school practices has many features to help middle grades educators prepare all of their students for success.

The educational strategies illustrated in the TCSII vignettes of school practices (both text and video) are parts of a comprehensive middle grades approach. Each practice illustrates only a part of a recommendation, research study, or learning improvement at a featured school. No single recommendation or practice alone can close the achievement gap in California's middle grades.

We hope you will enjoy TCSII and become a regular reader and contributor to this innovative Web portal designed specifically for middle level educators.
