California CareerZone Launches New Features

The California Career Resource Network is pleased to announce the launch of its updated and enhanced California CareerZone (Outside Source) Web site.

CareerZone is California’s publicly supported career information delivery system. Available to students and all Californians free of charge, the site offers users access to:

  • Self-assessment tools including the Quick Assessment; the Interest Profiler; and the Work Importance Profiler.
  • Essential information and descriptions on 900 occupations tracked by the Federal O*NET program, the nation's primary source of occupational information. Share successes and challenges of leading, managing, and operating a middle grades school.
  • Current and accurate California labor market information.
  • More than 300 occupational videos.
  • The Reality Check budget calculator for comparing real-life living expenses with the expected wages of a chosen occupation.

Comprehensive information on occupations includes California-specific wages, worker attributes, job characteristics, required skills and education, and the future outlook. Each career video gives students a snapshot of a featured occupation.

The new CareerZone features make it possible for users to:

  • Filter occupational results according to education and training requirements, salary, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) related occupations.
  • Compare up to four occupations and four colleges side-by-side.
  • Filter college listings by cost, location, size, type, and setting.
  • Find college majors using college profiles.
  • Rate occupations and colleges.
  • Create a portfolio report showing assessment results, journal entries, and occupations selected and saved by the user.

CareerZone is one of a suite of career development resources offered by the California Career Resource Network (Outside Source), a program of the California Department of Education devoted to the development of user-friendly student career development resources.
