Recommendation 12—Partnerships
"Partnering For Student Success"
Family, business, and community partnerships are valuable resources to support student learning and promote academic achievement.
Effective middle schools welcome and encourage the active participation and involvement of parents, families, community partners, and businesses.
Building relationships between school and the business community can:
- Provide funding for special projects.
- Offer career exploration activities for students.
- Sponsor tutoring programs (e.g., “MathMentorsU” – Raytheon Co.) for students by encouraging employees to volunteer their time as tutors.
Effective tutoring programs:
- Communicate goals and objectives.
- Extend student learning time and provide support for class work and homework.
- Give students access to individual or small group instruction.
- Build student confidence and understanding.
- Recognize partner contributions at the school site and in the workplace.
